Today, Industry Insider — Florida dives more into Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget recommendations focusing on IT funding for the Law Enforcement and Juvenile Justice departments and the Justice Administrative and Offender Review commissions.

LAW ENFORCEMENT


DeSantis recommended $92.4 million for IT for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, coming in short of the agency’s $94.2 million request.

Specific recommendations for the agency include:
  • $1.9 million for a Missing Endangered Persons Information Clearinghouse technology upgrade
  • $1.7 million for an alcohol testing program transition to new breath test instrumentation
  • $1.4 million for cybersecurity enhancements
  • $1.1 million for a statewide agency service increase

JUVENILE JUSTICE


DeSantis recommended $11.8 million for IT for the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, coming in short of the agency’s $13.3 million request.

Specific recommendations for the agency include:
  • $1 million for IT infrastructure replacement
  • $538,290 for IT security hardening platform support
  • $377,733 for a cybersecurity software enhancement
  • $250,000 for IT staff augmentation

JUSTICE ADMINISTRATION


The Justice Administrative Commission has various IT recommendations spread across several categories listed below.
  • $77,000 for IT critical needs for the commission’s executive direction and support services
  • $43,182 for IT critical needs for the second regional conflict counsel
  • $33,552 for IT critical needs for middle regional counsel
  • $16,752 for online Westlaw access for legal research for the fourth regional conflict counsel
  • $15,492 for IT critical needs for southern regional counsel
  • $14,763 for software maintenance for northern regional counsel

OFFENDER REVIEW


The commission has been recommended for two IT allocations:
  • $1.7 million for IT services provided by the Department of Corrections
  • $69,300 for Wi-Fi at the commission’s central office and other IT services provided by the Department of Corrections
