Citrus County CIO Todd Dunn to Retire After 30 Years of Service

Dunn, who joined the county in September 1994 as an information systems coordinator, plans to retire from his current role as CIO on Sept. 6, officially ending his 30-year tenure with the county.

Citrus County’s Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) is searching for a new chief information officer.

Todd Dunn has served as the county BOCC’s CIO since February 2017. Before that, Dunn was an information systems coordinator overseeing the Board of County Commissioners’ computer and network operations team from September 1994 until he became CIO.

Prior to that, he worked as a PC analyst with E-One, a fire truck manufacturer based in Ocala, providing personal computer hardware and software support.

“Todd Dunn is retiring from the Citrus County BOCC as of September 6, 2024,“ a county spokesperson wrote via email. “This date carries additional significance because it is Mr. Dunn’s 30th anniversary of service to the county. The search is underway, targeting September 6th for the permanent transition.“

To help with the search, the county has published the job posting online.

“The chief information officer oversees strategic planning, project management and implementation for all aspects of the county’s Department of Systems Management,” the job posting states.

The CIO will also manage computer network operations, geographic information systems, internal and external telecommunication systems, computer and phone equipment, and software and telecommunication devices for the county. Other responsibilities, according to the job posting, include:

  • Shifting county culture and behavior toward being data-driven, pro-learning and digital first 
  • Actively engaging with vendors to develop and evaluate new technology solutions for challenges beyond the scope and abilities of current staff 
  • Overseeing technology policy development for the county  
  • Overseeing generative artificial intelligence exploration and implementation within the organization 
  • Selecting and implementing suitable technology to streamline all internal operations and help optimize their strategic benefits
