Earlier this week, the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC), which operates the state’s prison system, implemented Tyler Technologies’ payment and deposit solutions to help manage all money transfer services for correctional facilities across the state.
“Through this partnership, FDC will be able to streamline the entire inmate trust management life cycle from incoming deposits and payments to fund disbursement,” reads a press release from Tyler Technologies.
The project will be carried out in multiple phases, with the first phase focused on implementing a deposit solution via an Amazon Web Services cloud environment.
Through the solution, approved depositors can send funds to inmates online via a mobile app, interactive voice response or a secure lockbox. Once funds are deposited, they are available to inmates through a commissary account.
After an inmate is released, they can receive any deposited money on a prepaid debit card and access these funds from a local bank.
“With Tyler’s suite of solutions, FDC is modernizing many of its paper-based processes, providing expanded disbursement services, enhancing its court-ordered payments solution and providing additional resources to inmates to help reduce recidivism, all while minimizing most of the fees paid by friends and families who are sending funds to loved ones,” the statement reads.
