Department of Financial Services Recruiting for a Linux Systems Administrator

As a Linux systems administrator, the incumbent will install, configure and maintain the department’s Linux operating systems and manage hardware and software systems to support the organization’s infrastructure.

The Florida Department of Financial Services is looking to hire a Linux systems administrator, categorized as a “systems programmer III” within the agency.

To qualify for the position, the incumbent must have five or more years of experience managing enterprise Unix and Linux environments.

The role's duties include:
  • Managing user accounts and permissions, implementing access controls and ensuring system security through firewalls, intrusion detection systems and secure configurations 
  • Monitoring system performance and uptime and diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues in real time 
  • Applying system patches and updates and monitoring logs and audit trails to identify suspicious activity 
  • Setting up and managing system backups and developing and testing disaster recovery plans 
  • Configuring and troubleshooting network interfaces such as DNS, DHCP, routing and VPNs, as well as monitoring network traffic and overall performance 
“Additionally, the Linux systems administrator will provide technical support for system-related issues and work closely with development and operations teams to ensure seamless integration and performance,” the job posting states.
