DeSantis Vetoes More Than $15.7M for Tech Projects

In addition to signing a $116.5 billion budget for FY 2024-2025, Gov. DeSantis also vetoed funding for several tech projects, including $9.7 million for the Florida Gaming Control Commission and $1.5 million for Suwannee County.

budget cuts
Earlier this week, Industry Insider — Florida reported that Gov. Ron DeSantis signed off on the $116.5 billion state budget. However, not all requested funding made the cut.

According to the governor’s veto list, various state and local technology projects did not receive funding for the upcoming fiscal year.

A few of these projects include:
  • A $9.8 million request from the Florida Gaming Control Commission for a licensing and enforcement system
  • A $2.8 million request from Florida International University for a traffic analytic solution
  • A $1.5 million request from Suwannee County for an emergency communications system
  • A $1 million request from Clay County Utility Authority for operational technology, supervisory control and data acquisition, and cybersecurity improvements
  • A $637,500 request for grant funding to aid local government information technology infrastructure

Also noted in the governor’s veto list were two sizable reversions.

According to the veto document, $129 million and $75 million in American Rescue Plan and State Fiscal Recovery Fund money, allocated to the Florida Department of Commerce for its Workforce Information System and Broadband Opportunity Program, will be transferred back to the state’s general revenue fund.
