Environmental Protection Department Recruiting for Database Consultant

This technical position provides Oracle database support and solutions for the agency while monitoring and reviewing the department’s database systems to ensure operation efficiency, integrity and security.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is looking to hire a database consultant.

According to the job posting, “This is a technical position that provides Oracle database support and solutions for the agency” and “is responsible for high-level technical oversight and management for planning, designing, modeling, monitoring, testing, operating and maintaining database management systems.”

Other specific job duties include:
  • Establishing and maintaining databases used for development, testing, production, data warehousing and public access 
  • Recording, tracking and investigating problems reported by users and keeping management informed of potential trouble areas 
  • Planning and executing database migrations and upgrade events to keep databases at current long-term release levels 
  • Monitoring database performance across development, beta and production services 
  • Performing OS and database patching for the OCI Oracle Base database systems 
All database systems are managed in an Oracle EE Oracle Linux RDBMS environment on-premises and in a DEP Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) tenancy.

As for minimum qualifications for the role, the duty statement asks for the following:
  • Five-plus years of experience managing Oracle Enterprise version 12c or 19c database instances 
  • Five-plus years of experience troubleshooting Oracle database administration and connection problems 
  • Five-plus years of experience monitoring Oracle performance metrics 
  • Three-plus years of experience reviewing physical schema models 
  • Three-plus years of experience with Oracle EM
