FDC Issues RFP for Virtual Reality Education Platform

The Florida Department of Corrections is requesting vendor proposals for virtual reality devices to deliver a workforce readiness and employability skills curriculum.

The Florida Department of Corrections has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for virtual reality devices and related technology to deliver workforce education curriculum.

According to the RFP, the effort is designed to “prepare incarcerated adults who are returning to the workplace upon release from prison.” It will serve as many as 20,000 inmates.

Technical requirements for prospective vendors include:
  • The learning platform must be compatible with Windows 10 or a higher operating system and the most current versions of Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome browsers. 
  • The learning platform must provide administrator access to the department for control functions and audit capabilities.
  • The learning platform must have user-level access control for each inmate, including a unique username or number and a strong password.
  • The contractor must provide technical support to the department and inmates from 7 a.m. through 5 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays.
  • The contractor must ensure all inmate activity in the online learning platform is logged, including all department user identities, originating IP addresses, learning platform action dates and times, and all accessed learning platform resources.
