Vendor responsibilities include providing a software update to the department’s Sonitrol/Redwire access control system and providing ongoing and future hardware and software maintenance.

The Florida Department of Education has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the maintenance of its Sonitrol/Redwire access control system for its headquarters.

According to the RFP, “the department access control system was installed by Sonitrol (now Redwire) and provides access control to the Turlington Building and many of the offices in the building. The company previously providing maintenance support for this system, ProTek, ceased supporting Redwire products in 2020.”

As a result, the department’s Sonitrol/Redwire system has not had software updates or hardware repairs in the past three years, resulting in various system hardware and software failures and other issues such as the department’s Office of Emergency Management not being able to provide ID badges to employees and contractors and not being able to secure sensitive areas such as the department’s Division of Technology and Innovation server room.

To remedy this, the department seeks to hire a vendor to achieve the following:
  • Update the current Sonitrol/Redwire access control system software
  • Provide ongoing hardware and software maintenance, including software updates and security patches, to the department’s access control system on an annual basis for three years with a potential for two one-year renewals
  • Respond to any system issues within two business days following a request from the department

Important dates for vendors interested in the opportunity include:
  • Jan. 19: The deadline for technical questions is 3 p.m. Submitting questions via email or fax is preferred.
  • Jan. 26: The department will issue its response to all technical questions.
  • Feb. 14: All vendor proposals are due at 10:30 a.m.

The contact for this RFP is Anita Wimberly. More information about RFP 2024-67 can be found online.
