The Florida Department of Financial Services is recruiting a systems programmer with expertise in Solaris and Linux systems installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and performance tuning for their Tallahassee office.

Among the systems programmer’s responsibilities is “installing and supporting multiple Oracle Solaris and Linux systems, troubleshooting to ensure 24/7 system availability, and researching and recommending software or hardware solutions,” according to the job posting. “Additionally, the position involves scripting for system management, diagnosing software issues and assisting users with problem resolution.”

Candidates must have five or more years of experience managing enterprise Unix and Linux environments. Experience with patching Unix or Linux systems and managing enterprise backup, replication and recovery solutions is preferred.

Other minimum qualifications include:
  • Knowledge of RedHat or similar Linux systems
  • Understanding of server hardware administration, including networking and storage
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (BASH, KSH, ZSH, Python or Perl)
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, infrastructure and security principles
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with users and generating management reports
