On Friday the Florida Digital Service (FLDS) opened the application window to apply for the agency’s Local Government Cybersecurity Grant program.

The cyber grant website states: “Pending enactment of the Florida FY 2024-25 General Appropriations Act, the Local Government Cybersecurity Grant Program is a $40 million competitive grant equipping local governments with software, services and solutions that enhance local governments’ cyber security posture to protect their infrastructure and Floridians’ data.”

Earlier this year, the Office of the State CIO’s budget raised concerns that the $40 million in technical assistance grants could potentially be moved back into the state’s general fund. However, the agency’s website states that not only will the funding remain in place, but that “active grant recipients can re-apply for the same solutions.”

Also noted on the website is that any remaining funding will be used for new applicants and existing partners wishing to change providers or add solutions.

Important dates for returning applicants include:
  • April 30: The application window closes for existing partners
  • Early May: Awards issued for existing partners
  • June 21: Signed grant agreements must be returned to FLDS
  • Early July: Purchase orders for continued services executed
Meanwhile, important dates for new applicants include:
  • May 31: Round 2 application deadline
  • Early October: Notifications of awarded grants for new applicants and services
  • Early 2025: Purchase orders for new applicants executed, and implementations begin
More information about the grant program can be found online.
