Florida Gulf Coast University Appoints Interim CISO

Earlier this month, the university’s chief information security officer accepted a new role at another university, prompting FGCU to appoint Ron Prins as its interim CISO while simultaneously launching a national search for a more permanent replacement.

Florida Gulf Coast University, in Lee County near Fort Myers, has appointed Ron Prins as interim chief information security officer, replacing former CISO Sven Hahues.

Earlier this month, Hahues stepped down from FGCU’s CISO position to lead the University of Houston System’s information security initiatives as its new CISO.

During his two-year tenure with FGCU, Hahues focused on protecting the university’s digital assets by developing and maintaining a comprehensive information security program and implementing a robust security information and event management solution and incident response plan.

As interim CISO, Prins will pick up where Hahues left off, bringing years of information security experience to the role.

For example, before joining the university as an information security analyst in February 2017, Prins worked with the Netherlands’ Ministry of Defense for 10 years as a senior security analyst and an ICT coordinator.

Before that, Prins was a technology consultant for Tykhon, a team leader for e-business for Staalbankiers and an IT technician and programmer for Meijer Energy and Environment.

However, a university spokesperson confirmed that FGCU is looking for a more permanent replacement, stating via email that “over the next six to nine months, we will conduct a national search for a chief information security officer.”
