The Florida Department of Commerce (FloridaCommerce) is looking to hire a chief technology officer.

As CTO, primary job responsibilities include supporting IT leadership and executive leadership by providing recommendations and guidance on implementing FloridaCommerce projects and leading and facilitating all cross-team collaboration and activities related to IT strategy, resource plans, policy and procedures.

Other job-specific duties include:

  • Coordinating and facilitating the department’s IT strategies 
  • Documenting department IT procedures, guidelines and standards to ensure the department is consistent with technology industry best practices  
  • Advising department senior management on the IT needs of the department 
  • Assisting in developing and prioritizing IT resource needs for the department’s business areas, IT projects and legislative budget requests 
  • Assisting in developing strategies for implementing enterprise IT services established in law and developing recommendations for IT policies 

As for specific job-related knowledge, skills and abilities, the duty statement lists the following:

  • Knowledge of both management and IT resources 
  • Working knowledge and leadership in setting strategies, governance, risk, compliance controls, training and aligning policy at a large private, public, defense or government organization 
  • Working knowledge of high-level business analysis, project management and project governance best practices 
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with a wide range of audiences 
  • Ability to communicate technical information 

The hiring salary for the role is $53 to $58 per hour, and the recruitment deadline is March 20.
