Important Dates to Watch for in the 2025 Legislative Session

With the upcoming legislative session commencing on Jan. 13 in Tallahassee, Industry Insider — Florida has identified key legislative dates to watch in 2025.

This year’s legislative session begins with interim meetings Monday, Jan. 13 in Tallahassee. With that in mind, here are key dates and information to pay attention to as the Legislature gets underway:

INTERIM CALENDARS AND MEETINGS


  • The Florida House of Representatives and Senate will host interim committee and subcommittee meetings Jan. 13-17. Below are a few meetings that involve tech: 
    • Jan. 14 from 9-11 a.m. in Sumner Hall (404 HOB): The House of Representatives Information Technology Budget and Policy Subcommittee will meet to discuss the state’s IT enterprise, including the Florida Digital Service, Division of Telecommunications, the State Data Center and Cyber Florida.
    • Jan. 14 from 4-6 p.m., in the Mallory Horne Committee Room, 37 Senate Building: The Florida Department of Transportation will discuss implementing solutions from transportation research and evaluate the University of Florida’s emerging technologies living lab.
    • Jan. 15 from 1-4 p.m., in the Pat Thomas Committee Room, 412 Knott Building: the Appropriations Committee on Agriculture, Environment and General Government will conduct a committee jurisdiction and base budget review of the Department of Management Services.
    • Jan. 15 from 1-4 p.m., in the James E. “Jim” King Jr. Committee Room, 401 Senate Building: the Appropriations Committee on Higher Education will conduct a program review of the Florida Center for Cybersecurity at the University of South Florida.

REGULAR SESSION DATES


  • Jan. 24 at 5 p.m.: All requests for drafts of general bills, memorials and joint resolutions, including requests for companion bills, must be submitted. 
  • Feb. 28 at 5 p.m.: All drafts of general bills, memorials and joint resolutions, including drafts for companion bills, must be approved for filing in final form.
  • March 4: The regular session convenes with a noon deadline for filing bills for introduction.
  • April 19: A motion to reconsider will occur and be considered the same day, and all bills will be immediately certified.
  • April 22: Last day for regularly scheduled committee meetings.
  • May 2: Last day of the regular session.
