Marion County’s Adopted Budget Allocates $59M for Tech

The county’s capital improvement program lists several tech opportunities, including installing hardware and software, modifying the county’s existing radio system and upgrading portable radio equipment.

Marion County, which includes cities such as Ocala, Dunnellon and Belleview, has allocated approximately $59,003,173 for technology services in its Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for fiscal years 2024-2028.

Of that $59 million, five of the county’s largest tech allocations totaled $37,161,661. Those allocations included:

  • $10,215,910 to upgrade portable radio equipment with funds from the county’s infrastructure surtax 
  • $8,471,762 to purchase equipment for the county’s Emergency Communications Center with funds from the infrastructure surtax
  • $6,924,103 for the Public Safety Communications department in partnership with Motorola Solutions Inc., to modify the county’s existing radio system 
  • $6,549,886 for a multiphase project to install hardware and software across all Board of County Commissioners’ departments for enterprise resource planning conversion 
  • $5,000,000 to assess county meters to determine which automated meters need to be replaced with new equipment
