Miami-Dade County May Soon Seek Voice and Data Communications Services

The county recently published a draft of the scope of services for a future competitive contract for voice and data communications products, including network switches, software and network security.

Miami-Dade County may soon seek a vendor to provide voice and data communications products and services.

According to a draft solicitation document from the county, prospective vendors would be asked to provide Avaya, Ciena, Extreme, Aruba and Cradlepoint voice and data communications products and services.

Specific products include the following:
  • Network switches: Ethernet switches, stand-alone switches, outside wiring closets, rack-mounted switches, DIN Rail-Mounted switches and small installation switches mounted into a cable duct, floor box or communications tower
  • Network software: Network software that can run on a server or within the cloud
  • Optical networking: High-capacity networks based on optical technology and components that provide routing, grooming and restoration at the wavelength level  
  • Routers: Hardware and support for complex router configurations in large enterprise communication networks 
The draft solicitation document also lists the following services:
  • Maintenance and support services, including monitoring, incident management, problem management, change management and utilization and performance reporting   
  • Engineering support services to assist county communications engineers in configuring new communication solutions    
  • Solutions implementation, including basic installation, configuration, end-to-end integration and deployment services 
  • Training services for IT professionals on networking technologies, including designing, implementing, operating, configuring and troubleshooting network systems
