Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava recently delivered her fifth State of the County address, highlighting various topics, including tech.

The county, which is the most populous in the state with 2.7 million residents, has a $12.7 billion budget, with an estimated IT budget of $254 million, according to Industry Navigator*.

The mayor mentioned innovation and technology several times throughout her speech.

“Over the past five years, I’ve delivered this message from all corners of our county,” she said. “Through it all, my goal has always been to create a more responsive, agile and accountable county government that works for you to deliver on your priorities, improve your quality of life and earn your trust.”

Regarding actual tech, she mentioned leveraging innovation and streamlining the county’s operations via the county’s new WISE305 agenda. The acronym “WISE” comprises four concepts:
  • Workplace initiatives
  • Investments in technology
  • Savings for businesses and residents
  • Efficiency review
“We will continue to leverage new technology to expand access to services and information like Fortune 500 companies will continue introducing automation in areas like customer service and data management to enhance efficiency, and we look forward to the release of updated permitting systems to create greater accountability while speeding up review times,” Cava said.

Investing in technology, she explained, will make it faster, easier, and less expensive to do business in and with the county.

Other notable tech mentions during Cava’s speech include maintaining the county’s climate tech hub designation from the U.S. Department of Commerce, continuing its work with the Miami-Dade Innovation Authority, which invests in early-stage technology companies to address local challenges, and launching the new platforms Workforce.Miami and STRIVE305.

Workforce.Miami aims to bridge the gap between employers and job seekers in the county via its online portal. Meanwhile, STRIVE305 offers small businesses resources and tools, including a vendor academy, workshops, training programs and more.
