According to a request for information (RFI) from the county, the trail is in the design phase. The county seeks to gather information for future wireless integration early on in the multiyear buildout process of the trail.
The goal is to “provide free, reliable wireless Internet access to trail users, including pedestrians and cyclists, once the trail is completed,” the RFI states.
However, while the trail is still being developed, the county is seeking innovative solutions, ranging from Wi-Fi, 5G or other emerging options, that can be integrated with existing infrastructure and withstand outdoor conditions.
Also, “the county is particularly interested in revenue-generating models, such as advertising, sponsorships or partnerships,” the RFI states, but is open to all creative and cost-effective solutions.
Specific project requirements for vendors include:
- Improve mobility choices and connectivity for users along the corridor, enhancing pedestrian, cyclist and transit connections
- Support access to essential services such as navigation, safety alerts and real-time transit information, ensuring a user-friendly experience
- Provide information on how the system could integrate with the future infrastructure of the trail, including planned lighting, signage and wayfinding elements
- Support high volumes of simultaneous users in high-traffic areas without service interruptions
- Outline how the system could incorporate security protocols to ensure the protection of user data
