Miami-Dade County Strategic Procurement and IT officials announced during a recent Industry Day event that the county will soon be soliciting vendor proposals for an enterprise cybersecurity services solution.
Prospective vendors must be able to provide enterprise managed cybersecurity services via a proposer-provided security operations center, according to Arlene Campbell, a procurement contracting officer for the county. Examples of these services include information and event analysis, such as first-line analysis of security alerts and potential threats, and performing security audits for the county.
Officials said they also need artificial intelligence tools to analyze county data. For example, prospective vendors will be expected to use AI to analyze county data and other external sources to pre-emptively detect security events to generate alerts, initial reviews and assessments of security threats.
Other vendor requirements include providing the county with all data, reporting and dashboards related to vendor-managed services via a cloud-hosted, web-based security information and event management portal.
Overall, the county is trying to stay ahead of potential cyber threats as much as possible.
“We’re looking for intelligence sharing and any advanced notification of attacks going on against our peers, not only governmental peers but also Fortune 500-sized organizations,” Lawrence Embil, a security manager for the county, said during the event. “The county comprises several departments. Some of those departments would be a Fortune 500 company on their own. So just looking for intelligence sharing, threat hunts and the ability to access APIs for whatever solution may be available so that our team can not only build automations but leverage anything that you guys may be able to offer us.”
An upcoming RFP will provide more information about the opportunity, including the official date for vendors to submit proposals, according to Campbell. Until then, more information about the county’s future solicitations can be found online.
