The school district is soliciting proposals for a system to monitor and control what content users can access via the Internet while connected to the district’s network or district-managed devices.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) has issued an invitation to negotiate (ITN) for a web content filtering system.

According to the ITN, “the system will ensure that users access safe and appropriate content, enhancing security, productivity and compliance with district policies.”

More specifically, M-DCPS is looking for a new system that:
  • Is compatible with Microsoft Azure, Entra and Google Workspace in a mixed-mode environment for user identification
  • Supports at least 100GB of continuous traffic with the capability of scaling to higher throughputs in the future
  • Provides a means of user identification for personal devices not managed by the district, as well as district-managed devices like Captive portal and RADIUS
  • Prevents unmanaged devices from circumventing the filter as effectively as managed devices
  • Provides transparent filtering for devices not managed by the district
M-DCPS is the third largest school district in the U.S., with nearly 500 schools, 337,100 students and more than 34,700 employees.

More information about ITN-24-033-YG can be found online. Vendor proposals are due May 22 at 1 p.m., and the point of contact for this solicitation is Yusbel Gonzalez.
