On April 30, 1915, Broward County was formed from portions of Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties after the area became more accessible due to the Florida East Coast Railroad and drainage of the Everglades.
After that, Port Everglades opened in the 1920s, allowing larger ships to visit the area and generate business, boosting the local economy.
