St. Cloud Hiring Senior Network Engineer

The position will design, implement and maintain the city's network infrastructure while ensuring stability for in-house and cloud services.

St. Cloud, located about 26 miles southeast of Orlando, is hiring a senior networking engineer to design, implement and maintain the city’s network infrastructure.

According to the job posting, the role “ensures the stability and integrity of in-house and cloud-based network services, including planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all network hardware, software and communication links.”

Duties and responsibilities include:
  • Design, deploy and maintain functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN), including configuration of routers, switches, firewalls and other network devices
  • Monitor network performance, system availability and daily backups, while diagnosing and troubleshooting issues
  • Perform regular network maintenance and system upgrades, including applying service packs, patches and security configurations
  • Collaborate with the city's security team to select and implement security tools and policies, ensuring compliance with configuration and change management protocols
  • Mentor junior staff, provide after-hours technical support and lead network IT project planning and implementation
Minimum requirements are:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT or a related field, with a minimum of five years of experience in network administration and engineering
  • Professional certifications such as CCNP, CCIE or equivalent demonstrating advanced expertise
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure, hardware and the ability to implement, administer and troubleshoot devices such as wireless access points, firewalls, routers and switches
  • Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols, along with experience in network capacity planning and security principles
Preferred qualifications include advanced certifications in network security and experience in a government or public-sector environment. Familiarity with cloud networking solutions, as well as knowledge of Cisco DNA and ISE, is also beneficial.
