Tallahassee Police Budgets $12.7M in 2025-29 Tech Plan

The police department plans to use the funding for various public safety technology projects, including updates to the body-worn camera system, upgrades to mobile data systems hardware, expansion of the in-car camera system and more.

The Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) is planning to spend $12.7 million for various tech-related public safety initiatives for fiscal years 2025-2029.

According to its website, the department “is currently in the process of a major technology refresh. Many dated systems are being upgraded to provide increased community visibility, transparency and efficiency.”

This project includes a range of software, equipment and infrastructure designed to support TPD totaling $12.7 million for FY25-29.

Some of the IT initiatives are:
  • Update of the Axon body-worn camera system and implementation of video data quality control
  • Upgrade of mobile data systems hardware
  • Introduction of AI for video analytics
  • Maintenance and upgrades to the TPD's records/case management system
  • Expansion of the in-car camera system and Vx-Rail infrastructure
Specific amounts for FY2025 include:
  • $74,300 for a BRASSTRAX machine
  • $45,000 for in-car printer replacements
