Tampa Allocates $17.7M to Tech and Innovation Capital Projects

A few examples of these projects include replacing IT management systems that have reached end of life, adding an Oracle recruiting module, implementing citywide backup data center upgrades and more.

The city of Tampa has allocated $17.7 million for technology and innovation capital projects for fiscal years 2024 to 2028.

In addition to these funds, the city’s website also notes a $40.3 million adopted technology and innovation budget for FY 2023-2024.

Tampa’s Technology and Innovation Department seeks to accomplish the following goals in the next five years:
  • Meet or exceed customer and constituent expectations through technology 
  • Align IT services with the city’s business objectives 
  • Be the IT and electronics service provider for all city departments, administration and external agencies 
  • Apply technology to modernize how city government works 
  • Enable technology to play a critical role in the economic future of the city 

In terms of specific technology and innovation projects, the city’s capital budget highlights the following:
  • $9.9 million for public safety communications technology for FY 2024-2028 
  • $2.5 million for citywide backup data center upgrades for FY 2024-2028 
  • $2.4 million for a new Oracle recruiting model for FY 2024-2025 
  • $1.6 million for replacing IT management systems that have reached end of life for FY 2023-2024 

Other notable capital budget allocations for FY 2023-2024 include $545,000 for the city’s OnBase agenda and document management system, $400,000 for its customer service center, $230,000 for timekeeping and analytics services and $194,000 for Tampa Police’s data mart revamp.
