Forward Pinellas, the county’s land use and transportation planning agency, has identified several tech opportunities in its transportation improvement program (TIP) for fiscal years 2023-2024 to 2027-2028.

According to the county’s website, Forward Pinellas aims to “solve problems by bringing people together to focus on the big picture of how growth, redevelopment and transportation position Pinellas County and its communities for long-term success.”

The agency’s transportation improvement program helps achieve this by culminating information related to the prioritization, selection and funding of transportation projects within Pinellas County, including local and regional transportation project priority lists and five years of scheduled funding for highway, public transportation, bicycle and pedestrian projects receiving Title 23 and Title 49 federal funds.

Project examples for fiscal years 2023/2024 to 2027/2028 include:
  • $19,099,014 for FY 2023/2024 and $18 million for FY 2024/2025 for Florida Department of Transportation Project No. 402520-1-94, which includes preventative maintenance, replacement revenue vehicles, computer hardware and software, passenger amenities, miscellaneous support equipment, solar and electrical infrastructure construction, short-range planning, and project administration.
  • $2,382,312 from 2024 to 2028 to conduct surveys to update planning and data models.
  • $587,460 in 2024 and $2,080,000 in 2025 for installing fiber-optic cables, CCTV, dynamic message signs and an adaptive vehicle detection system for Harrison Road, to US 19/SR 55.
  • $554,600 in 2024 and $2,932,400 in 2026 for installing fiber-optic cables, CCTV, dynamic message signs and an adaptive vehicle detection system.
  • $370,000 in 2024 and $1,296,700 in 2025 for installing fiber-optic cables, CCTV, dynamic message signs and an adaptive vehicle detection system.
