The Florida Department of State reported about $1.2 million in IT purchases in the latter half of 2023, with one purchase accounting for most of that spending.

The department gathers and protects Florida's public records. It includes the Office of the Secretary and various divisions such as Administrative Services, Corporations, Arts and Culture, Elections, Historical Resources, and Library and Information Services. It also houses offices dedicated to international affairs and election crimes and security.

Here are the five largest IT-related purchases made by the agency from July 1 to Dec. 27, 2023, rounded up, based on data from the Florida Accountability Contract Tracking System:
  • $1 million to Cengage Learning, a company specializing in educational content, technology and services tailored for K-12, higher education, as well as professional and library markets
  • $30,000 to KLC Consulting Inc., an integrated computing solutions provider primarily for the public sector, focusing on customized software applications and network/database integration
  • $29,000 to Global Information Services Inc., a company offering IT staffing and technology consulting services to both private and government sectors within Florida
  • $29,000 to Niche Academy LLC, a learning academy that offers video tutorials embeddable into any online platform
  • $16,000 to Presidio Networked Solutions Group LLC, a global provider of digital solutions and services, specializing in software-defined cloud, collaboration and security solutions

Regarding specific purchases, the department spent about $1 million on online database information retrieval services, $75,000 on IT consultation services, $48,000 on technical assistance and non-governmental services and $16,000 on security protection software maintenance.
