Two State Departments Seeking IT Business and Systems Programming Consultants

The departments of Commerce and Financial Services are seeking candidates for IT consultants in Tallahassee, both with a deadline of Dec. 15 to apply.

Two state departments are recruiting for roles focused on IT business, database and system operations.

The Department of Commerce, renamed in 2023 from the Department of Economic Opportunity, is seeking an IT business consultant to serve in a supervisory role for application support team members with a focus on database and system operations.

The Department of Commerce position will work with the Department of Economic Opportunity’s Division of Information Technology to support ongoing operations for various application and system support projects from conception, initiation, requirements, design, development and testing, deployment, and support.

Other responsibilities include:
  • Providing direction for system engineering, system administration, database administration, software configuration management, application administration, technical architecture, cloud systems and data center management
  • Directing the maintenance and advancement of assigned business program’s architectural stack including the application framework, middleware, databases, operating systems, servers, storage and networking
  • Remaining up to date on current technologies, industry trends, methodologies and best practices
  • Guiding and supporting application support efforts and the troubleshooting of system incidents
  • Working with Vendor Management on specific relationships with private vendors and other state and federal entities to ensure proper cost controls and vendor performance

The candidate for the Department of Financial Services’ system programming consultant position will plan, schedule, test, install and support IBM mainframe operating system software and other assigned proprietary software products at the department’s data center. They will also assist other systems software personnel, applications programmers and program product users as required.

Other job requirements include:
  • Ability to do short- and long-range project planning
  • Ability to develop various reports including technical data processing reports
  • Ability to direct feasibility and cost analysis studies
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing on a technical level with both hardware/software vendors and technical staff
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and documentation
