University of Miami Recruiting for Chief Technology Officer

The enterprise-level role will oversee all IT infrastructure services across the university and its health-care system, supporting education, clinical care and research missions.

The University of Miami (UM) is looking to hire a chief technology officer (CTO) to oversee all IT infrastructure services across UM and UHealth, the university’s health-care system.

According to the job posting, “the CTO will manage multiple technical departments including end user and server devices, cloud platform engineering and operations, network, data center and communications, infrastructure software and services and infrastructure architecture.”

The prospective candidate would also be tasked with developing and implementing “measurable tactics to meet the demand for IT through people, process and technology programs” and fostering “strong relationships across the organization to influence and manage buy-in for technology direction and emerging industry trends.”

Other specific job duties include:
  • Providing enterprisewide leadership in developing and executing a comprehensive technology infrastructure plan that aligns with the mission and strategic priorities of UM 
  • Acting as a key contributor to the ongoing development and implementation of the organization’s IT tactics, logistics and strategies
  • Creating a culture of quality customer service and innovation that aligns with the organization’s goals and mission
  • Managing technology operations, tracking technology trends, driving technology-enabled innovation and facilitating technology investments across the enterprise  
  • Partnering with key stakeholders to create, experiment and pilot new opportunities that advance education, research and clinical care
The university’s most recent CTO, Edward Santos, was hired in July 2018.
