The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) is seeking vendor input on the feasibility, benefits and associated costs of implementing communication software to expand its desk trooper program.
According to a request for information (RFI) from the department, the desk trooper program is the result of a two-year agreement between Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and the Central Florida Expressway Authority.
“The goal is to reduce the wait time for people involved in crashes such as two people stuck in traffic and one vehicle rear ends another, causing minor damage,” an FLHSMV spokesperson previously told Industry Insider — Florida.
Currently, FHP relies on a software program and drivers’ cellphones to allow troopers to respond remotely to minor car crashes and initiate investigations via technology similar to FaceTime.
The department’s current software subscription supports 50 concurrent licenses installed on 500 workstations. But it's looking to expand the pilot statewide, covering all roadways in Florida.
To achieve this, FLHSMV is interested in implementing a scalable solution that can support up to 1,300 concurrent users and provide any initial and additional training virtually.
More information about FLHSMV-RFI-037-25 can be found online. The submission deadline is 2 p.m. on June 16. Katie Downey is the contact for this solicitation.
