Last week, the city of Fort Myers entered into a five-year partnership with Oracle and Creoal + SMX Consulting to launch a $7.8 million enterprise resource planning system.

“This project will integrate Oracle cloud enterprise resource planning (ERP), human capital management (HCM), supply chain management (SCM), and financial enterprise performance management (EPM) systems, establishing a transformative platform for transparent and efficient delivery of municipal services,” a press release from the city states.

Currently, the city relies on a 23-year-old ERP system to deliver municipal services. However, on Sept. 23, the Fort Myers City Council approved the new ERP system after two years of planning and preparation.

“The project is designed to address current operational challenges and create a sustainable framework for future growth and success,” the press release states.

Toward that end, the new system would provide improved systems integration, workflow, resource allocation and resiliency, supply chain management, resident communication, environmental responsibility and artificial intelligence to support informed decision-making.

“Oracle is known as one of the world’s top ERP companies that will improve our operations while generating cost savings for taxpayers,” said Richard Calkins, the city’s IT services director. “This major modernization aligns us with municipalities like the city of Tampa, showcasing a shared commitment to adopting the latest and most secure system for constituents and becoming a leader in government technology.”
