On July 12, Orange County will host its second annual Contracting Academy for business owners and contractors.

According to a press release from the county, the academy “will offer valuable tips from industry experts on navigating the bidding process to help underrepresented businesses better compete and fuel growth.”

From the county’s perspective, the academy will help cast a wider net to attract new skilled contractors and increase the number of small and minority- and women-owned businesses.

“There is a need to reach contractors who may not have done business with Orange County before and need more guidance to navigate the process,” said Carrie Mathes, manager of the county’s procurement division, in the release. “This academy is a powerful tool to help maintain a fair, diverse and competitive bidding process.”

The academy will run from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 12 at UF/IFAS Extension Orange County, 6021 Conway Rd., Orlando, Fla., 32812. Virtual attendance options are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets for the event can be requested online.

Until then, upcoming projects, timelines or notifications for Orange County formal solicitations can be found here.
