Profiles in Government: A Closer Look at St. Johns County

With a steadily increasing population of more than 300,000, the county has a recommended tech budget of $5.6 million.

St. Augustine
Formed in 1821 as one of Florida's first counties, St. Johns County has a fast-growing population of 306,841.

That number has grown more than 12 percent since 2020, making it one of the fastest-growing counties in the state. It also hosts 11,027 businesses, according to its website.

The county seat and largest incorporated city is St. Augustine. The county is governed by five elected commissioners, each representing one of the five county districts.

TECHNOLOGY PLANS


Management Information Systems' budget request this year included:
  • Hiring extra support for an already-approved Microsoft 365 implementation
  • Taking on software expenses from the General Services Department
  • Replacement of a server, switches and uninterruptible power supply
  • Transfer of various positions and expenses to other departments, including ERP software

The capital budget includes:
  • $187,250 for Management Information Systems, including file and print servers, HP tape library and SAN replacement
  • $122,000 for court technology administration computer equipment
