Three State Agencies Hiring for IT Positions in Tallahassee

The state is hiring IT leadership roles at the Department of Financial Services, Department of Commerce and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, all with application deadlines of Feb. 2.

Three state agencies — the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Department of Commerce (FloridaCommerce) and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) — are hiring for IT leadership roles in Tallahassee.

DFS is hiring an IT business consultant manager. The department oversees financial responsibilities for state government. This supervisory position will be responsible for:
  • Directing personnel in the planning, scheduling and implementation of information systems
  • Ensuring completeness and accuracy of systems design, programming and implementation of assigned projects
  • Overseeing systems planning studies, information needs assessments and systems analysis
  • Serving as a consultant to higher management on major system developments
  • Coordinating system modification implementations to achieve continued compatibility and interface effectiveness
According to the posting, a bachelor's degree or four years of experience in a relevant field such as IT or computer science is required. Additional requirements include experience in management and application development.

The application deadline posted is Feb. 2. The annual salary is listed in the range of $110,000 to $123,296.

FloridaCommerce, renamed from the Department of Economic Opportunity last year, is in search of a senior IT business consultant. The department oversees a range of state and federal programs and initiatives designed to support visitors, citizens, businesses and communities in promoting economic growth.

According to the job posting and duty statement, the senior IT business consultant position will report to the IT operations manager. The position oversees staff and functions supporting the Department of Commerce's IT operations, including cloud platforms, databases, Office 365, system administration, data security, software, configuration management and applications. The position actively contributes to ongoing projects from conception to support.

Other on-the-job duties include planning, research and activities with organizational impact for database support, server infrastructure, hardware, operating systems, software and infrastructure environments.

The position has a yearly salary range of $85,000 to $95,000, and the application deadline is Feb. 2.

The FWC is seeking to fill an IT section leader role. This position involves managing the entire network (LAN, MAN, WAN, VoIP), commission file server, and linkages with state, federal and other networks. Responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day operations, on-premise/cloud infrastructure, network security, and backup and disaster recovery for the commission using both in-house and contracted resources.

Applicants should have:
  • At least six years of experience in operating, maintaining and troubleshooting enterprise network infrastructure and systems
  • A bachelor's degree in computer sciences, IT systems, network management or IT management
  • Two years of supervisory experience can serve as a substitute for the required experience
