Transportation Department Asks for $30.8M for IT Projects

The department's legislative request includes several IT-related projects, such as its cloud-first initiative, PALM readiness and statewide telephone system modernization.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is requesting a total of $30.8 million for nine technology initiatives in its legislative budget.

The department’s largest request is $11.4 million to support its cloud-first initiative, the Data Infrastructure Migration and Modernization (DIMM) program. The DIMM program aims to develop a five-year plan for migrating and modernizing technology tools and systems to ensure operational continuity.

FDOT’s goal is to adopt cloud computing and software-as-a-service solutions for most of its IT infrastructure by 2031, leveraging scalable and innovative platforms that meet future needs. This initiative will continue to prioritize cloud adoption for both new and existing workloads.

Other notable IT funding requests from the department include:
  • $9.6 million for Florida Planning, Accounting, and Ledger Management (PALM) readiness
  • $2.5 million for increased IT operating costs
  • $2.4 million for increased NWRDC costs
  • $1.9 million for a statewide telephone system modernization
  • $1.2 million for its security risk management program
  • $740,880 for secure email gateway implementation
  • $610,873 for its transportation systems disruption mitigation plan
  • $434,720 for virtual mobility data management
