Intelligent Epitaxy Technology Inc. (IntelliEPI), which serves the semiconductor industry, is adding a 30,000-square-foot site to the city of Allen that will help it nearly triple annual production, according to a statement on Thursday.
The Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) is providing a grant of $4.12 million for the new wafer production facility. It’s expected to create more than $41 million in capital investment and nearly triple the company’s annual wafer production.
Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law the Texas CHIPS Act in 2023 that established the TSIF and the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium.
IntelliEPI manufactures and sells compound wafers, a key component in the making of semiconductors. Its technology is used in telecommunications, photonics, radio frequency and microwave technologies.
“The funding will not only expand our production facilities but also solidify the state of Texas’ position as a key hub for compound wafer manufacturing, a critical need for America’s national and economic security,” Yung-Chung Kao, IntelliEPI’s CEO, said in a statement.
Texas leads the nation as the top exporter of semiconductors and other electronic components for the last 13 years, Abbott said.
“Thanks to companies like IntelliEPI, Texas will continue to lead the nation in critical semiconductor manufacturing capacity while developing the technologies of tomorrow,” Abbott said in the statement.
