Vendors interested in doing business with the state may want to watch the latest Industry Insider Texas fireside chat featuring longtime state procurement leader Hershel Becker.

Becker, who served seven years as the Department of Information Resources’ (DIR) chief procurement officer, recently sat down with Dustin Haisler, president of e.Republic,* and discussed the ins and outs of Texas IT procurement.

The wide-ranging webinar, “Selling Tech in Texas: What you need to know to sell IT Solutions to Agencies in the State of Texas,” starts with an overview of DIR’s role in procurement. Becker and Haisler take a deep dive and answer questions from vendors curious to know more about DIR processes, advisory roles and interactions with state agencies.

Topics include:

  • Contract opportunities and how to approach them
  • What it takes to partner with the state
  • How the budget process works
  • Where to find resources such as contract holders and rules

Becker’s insight comes from serving two decades in state agency procurement, first in the Texas Office of the Attorney General and then as DIR’s chief procurement officer. He networks regularly at industry events, he said during the webinar, and he is connected to procurement officials across the state.

He joined e.Republic’s Center for Digital Government in March and is the CEO of Signature Advisory Partners in Austin.
