One of those five is RapidDeploy of Austin, a cloud-native public safety technology provider that offers mapping and analytics solutions.

According to its website, RapidDeploy started in Cape Town, South Africa, when a volunteer paramedic, Brett Meyerowitz, and a Sea Rescue volunteer, Steven Raucher, questioned why billions of dollars were spent each year to maintain proprietary, expensive and out-of-date technology.

They believed that there must be a better way for emergency service agencies to provide accurate, useful information to telecommunicators and first responders.

The GovTech 100 is an annual list compiled and published by Government Technology as a compendium of 100 companies focused on, making a difference in, and selling to state and local government agencies across the United States.
