Austin Seeks Project Management and Technical Services

The city is looking for a vendor to provide several services and information and communication technology for the Austin Convention Center Redevelopment Project.

The city of Austin, the Austin Convention Center Department and Capital Delivery Services have issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) for a vendor to provide expert project management and technical services, including information and communication technology, for the convention center redevelopment project.

According to the RFQ, “the selected firm is expected to work in collaboration with the owner project team and its stakeholders with a focus on project management, cost management, scope and change control, risk management, communication, reporting, regulatory compliance, schedule management and quality management for the successful delivery of the project.”

The owner project team is comprised of city leadership, Austin Convention Center Department and Capital Delivery Services employees, city staff and other stakeholders.

The city expects the design and construction portion of the project, including the demolition of the existing Austin Convention Center and all site preparation, to be finished by December 2028.

As for specific vendor responsibilities, the RFQ highlights the following:

  • Assist the city in using public-private partnerships to procure other project resources
  • Coordinate design and engineering criteria, scope and special elements with city project team stakeholders
  • Develop executive-level and project-level reporting
  • Establish and maintain communication protocols between owner and project teams
  • Review all aspects of design and engineering criteria, scope and special project elements
  • Prepare budgetary cost estimates
  • Hazmat investigation, survey and specification writing
  • Provide information and communication technology
  • Maintain a project log of all testing performed
  • Geotechnical site investigation services
  • Geotechnical laboratory testing
