Karen M. Smith, recently an Amazon Web Services recruiting manager, has taken a leadership position with CGI, an international IT and business consulting services firm.

Smith will serve as director of consulting, Texas Public Sector.

“CGI is thrilled to have Karen on our Texas public-sector team helping bring our services and solutions to the state of Texas and the communities for which we work and live,” said CGI director Jaclyn Beerens via email. “We can’t wait to see what she will accomplish in her new role — her insights, experience and dedication will be a tremendous asset for our public-sector clients.”

The company has eight regional locations in Texas, with its public-sector practice in Austin.

Smith worked about 18 years with Sense Corp., now CGI, she said. Her background is in technology, starting with Oracle programming and IT consulting. She has many years in recruiting and talent management, having stood up a university recruiting model in 2008.

“I love the public-sector field as the projects there are high impact to the Texas community and beyond,”
Smith said via email.

Of note, Smith has lived in Austin since arriving from Ireland in 2000; she volunteers with her children in Generation Serve. Her college degree is in computer science and French.
