“I’ve served in the military and worked in the private and public sectors and am excited to take on a new challenge at VIA, an organization driven by talented, dedicated employees,” Dillard said in the news release. “Everyone at VIA — from the technology team to our frontline — is focused on the same mission: to serve and connect our community, every day.”
Dillard was with the city’s innovation office for five and a half years, first as the smart city administrator and then as the chief innovation officer. Dillard previously worked in private-sector cybersecurity and information assurance, according to his LinkedIn profile. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran with a decade of service.
VIA serves San Antonio and the surrounding area. Riders included some 12.2 million in 2022 who were going to work, 8,000 students and 9,400 seeking health care, according to the website.
The transit authority’s budget is about $262.5 million. Technology and Innovation had an $11.7 million 2024 proposed budget with 39 authorized positions.
