City Has Requests for Connectivity and Projects Requiring Tech

Multiple requests for proposals are due in August and some in the coming months.

Last month the city published a solicitation for “digital connectivity in underserved community areas” with a due date of October.

San Antonio, with multiple opportunities, has listed a request for proposal (RFP) for Internet service providers (ISPs) to design, build and provide improved broadband and service. Neither the city nor Bexar County will directly own the infrastructure but will serve as a pass-through for customers.

“The city considers areas as unserved that have less than 25Mbps infrastructure to the local neighborhood, not the house, or underserved, less than 100/20Mbps infrastructure to the local neighborhood, not the house,” according to the RFP.

“Respondents will detail development, implementation, operations, and ownership of middle mile, last mile, individual household hookup and affordable service contracts for each individual census tract.”

Full requirements for connectivity project proposals are in RFP No. 22-105 that lists 11 a.m. Oct. 5 as the deadline. The city also publishes an RFx Response Guide for potential vendors.

In addition to this project, the city is seeking:
  • A competitively sealed proposal for a magistration and arrestee processing system due at 2 p.m. Sept. 9 that will be privacy compliant and compliant with criminal justice standards.
  • A competitively sealed proposal for the public library to install and enable a radio frequency identification system that will allow for collection and asset management, self-checkout and higher efficiencies. The bid is due at 2 p.m. Aug. 27.

San Antonio publishes opportunities at the city web pages and only accepts bids electronically. Submission instructions are included in solicitation documents.

With 1.5 million residents, the city has an overall budget of $3 billion and an estimated IT budget of $61 million, according to Industry Navigator.*
