Dale Harwell, the University Park director of information services, has announced that he will retire in April.

He has served the Dallas enclave for more than a decade.

“I am looking forward to my next chapter as I have announced my retirement from the city of University Park to be April 15,” Harwell said on LinkedIn. “This has been a great place to work for me with a highly talented IT team and a very supportive city manager, mayor and city council.”

Harwell has been in public-sector IT for about 25 years, has worked in health IT and is an adjunct professor at Dallas Baptist University.

University Park, home to Southern Methodist University and home to about 25,000 residents, has nearly a $70 million budget and a master plan that includes “innovative governance” and “technological integration” as long-term goals.

The incoming director will be responsible for the city’s strategic IT vision. The job posting doesn’t list a closing date but lists a salary range of $130,416-$191,506 per year.
