The Texas Comptroller’s office is looking to hire a software development support manager to lead its new vendor-supported applications team.

According to the job listing, the chosen candidate “will lead a talented group of developers, guiding them through the challenges of a fast-paced environment” and “foster agile practices, empowering the team to adapt and evolve rapidly in response to changing requirements by focusing on customer needs.”

As for specific interactions with tech, the duty statement highlights the following responsibilities:

  • Monitor vendor-supported and other assigned applications; work with vendors to ensure the agency’s needs are met; and provide reliable, scalable and secure business applications to customers.
  • Work closely with other IT managers, architects and CPA staff to develop innovative solutions that meet business needs concerning functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, maintainability, security, realistic implementation schedules, system architecture and adherence to agency goals and principles. 
  • Advise management on issues ranging from technical strategies and solutions to vendor technology integration.
  • Translate IT system environment and services capabilities and limitations into terminology and concepts easily understood by agency executives.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the agency’s project management offices to identify the appropriate resources for agency projects.
  • Facilitating communication among staff, executive management, vendors and customers.
  • Developing and evaluating budget requests and monitoring budget expenditures.
  • Delivering “on time” and “within budget” business applications and services that satisfy internal and external customer requirements, provide superior customer experiences and reduce agency costs.
  • Managing the professional development of section personnel through classroom training, on-the-job training, job rotations, cross-training and special assignments and projects.

The position has a monthly salary range of $8,800 to $9,150, and the application deadline is Aug. 15.
