County to Suspend COVID-19 Dashboard

Reporting to the state will continue, but the weekly news releases will also end.

COVID-19 cases have dwindled so much that Comal County will stop publishing daily totals on its website.

Though the county health department will continue to submit data to the state each day as required, Public Information Officer Cary Zayas said the daily dashboard on the county website will be taken down and officials will no longer send out weekly news releases with the number of cases for that week.

Should there be a spike in cases, Zayas said in an email, "we will reintroduce the dashboard and press releases as needed to keep the community informed."

Officials pointed to a "steady decline" in cases when announcing in a news release that the county will no longer publish a COVID-19 dashboard after Oct. 14.

Zayas said that the increase in home testing has made it difficult for the county to provide accurate data.

People still can see a daily update of virus data on the Texas Department of State Health Services website. The county will continue to post pandemic-related information on its public health website.
