Dallas Love Field Gets New High-Tech Security Line Options

What to Know:
  • On Thursday, CLEAR will introduce its biometric eGates at Love Field TSA security checkpoints.
  • The service allows fliers to bypass a TSA Security podium or traditional CLEAR pod.
  • The eGates are similar to biometric technology TSA has rolled out at regular security lanes in recent years.

Tribune News Service —  CLEAR, the popular airport identification technology company, is launching a new security system at Dallas Love Field Airport ahead of the holiday travel season.

On Thursday, CLEAR will introduce its biometric eGates at Love Field TSA security checkpoints, according to a company statement. The airport is the headquarters of Southwest Airlines, which operates 18 of the 20 gates.

Airports in Detroit and New Jersey will also introduce eGates this week.

Passengers enrolled in CLEAR+ can scan their boarding pass at their designated lane, walk up to the eGate, undergo facial identification and proceed to bag screening, according to the company’s website.

The service allows fliers to bypass a TSA Security podium or traditional CLEAR pod. TSA still oversees operation of the service, controlling gate access, conducting security checks and enforcing federal security requirements, the site said.

CLEAR said members of CLEAR+ who utilize the eGates have reported passing through to bag screening in under five seconds.

In August, the eGates were launched at airports in Seattle, Atlanta and Washington, D.C., in preparation for next year’s World Cup games and the celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

“CLEAR is proud to launch its biometric eGates at DAL airport, the first eGates in the state of Texas,” Kyle McLaughlin, CLEAR’s executive vice president of aviation and travel, said in a statement.

“As part of a larger effort to modernize travel ahead of next year’s FIFA World Cup, CLEAR+ Members can now further enjoy a seamless and more predictable experience. This partnership with TSA is a powerful example of how public and private sectors can work together to enhance security and improve the aviation ecosystem.”
