Bruce Hermes, according to an emailed out-of-office reply, left his position as CIO of the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) last week.

The agency confirmed the position has been posted online.

Hermes started with the TDA in February 2021 after previously serving as deputy CIO for the city of Austin, the state's Office of Court Administration’s information services director and various other IT roles in Texas.

During his tenure, he advocated for and brought technology innovation to the TDA, as evidenced in the modernization allocation for the 2024-2025 biennium. Work at the city of Austin included leading the 911 center and streamlining work for the project management and IT offices.

Hermes recently was a panelist for the Government Technology * webinar IT Modernization for 2023.

Per the TDA job posting, the CIO reports to the deputy commissioner. The agency as a whole has 770 full-time equivalent employees. The upcoming biennial budget, signed June 18, includes $10.8 million for technology.
