The agency responsible for statewide law enforcement has issued a request for information (RFI) pertaining to a virtual cyber awareness training software tool.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) is seeking information about a tool to help the agency’s cyber division bridge the gap between its annual cybersecurity training and real-time cyber events. According to the RFI, the tool should be able to do the following:

  • Handle 10,000 to 12,000 users
  • Provide a pre-built virtual escape room (i.e., needing to find cyber clues to escape a virtual room)
  • Produce monthly cyber awareness newsletters
  • Provide video and interactive training modules for employees about the latest cyber threats
  • Send fake phishing or scam emails to test agency employees’ awareness
  • Generate reports based on set metrics (i.e., who passed the escape room and what area they work for, who didn’t fall for the phishing or scam email and reported it, etc.)

Also listed in the document are the following questions for potential vendors:

  • Is your system SSO (single sign-on) capable, or can a temporary link be granted?
  • Do you have a DIR Contract Number?
  • Can this be handled via a server on-premises, or is it handled off-site via a cloud solution?
  • If the solution is online, are you TX-RAMP/FedRAMP certified?
  • Is your system customizable?
