DIR Hires Internal CIO, Plans to Rename Internal Division

Amy Kelley will fill the role. She brings 25 years of IT experience to the Department of Information Resources, much of it with state and local government in Texas.

The Texas Department of Information Resources has named a new internal CIO, the final hire required to complete the executive leadership team.

Amy Kelley will take on the role, which oversees DIR's IT and AI Office. She brings 25 years of IT experience, most of it in state and local government in Texas. Most recently she established her own IT services and consulting firm, Kelley Secure Strategies. Before that, she served as director of information security for the Texas Municipal Retirement System.

A spokesperson for DIR confirmed that Kelley's first day was Wednesday. DIR also plans to rename Kelley's division to the Office of the Chief Information Officer.

Her longest-held roles, according to her LinkedIn profile, include:
  • CIO and acting chief information security officer for the City of Austin Employees' Retirement System from 2018 to 2025
  • CIO for the city of Bee Cave, west of Austin in Travis County, from 2008 to 2018
  • Information systems manager for the health-care company ONR
Kelley holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin's McCombs School of Business. She also sits on the board of directors of SIM Austin.
