Another small town, this one in North Texas, has taken advantage of federal funding to bring high-speed Internet to residents.

WFAA-8 reported that Farmersville will be “Texas’ next multi-gigabit city” and has entered a public-private partnership with Thrive Broadband.

Money for fiber came from a combination of sources: $700,000 from the city, $2.9 million from a U.S. Economic Development Administration grant and $1 million from Thrive.

The city of about 4,300 will be connected via high-speed fiber lines inside the city proper, according to the article. Farmersville will own the lines, which Thrive will install, and they will share revenue.

Service signups are available now, and the service roll out is expected this summer, according to the company. The firm was incorporated in Colorado in 2017 and has been doing business in Texas since 2022.

Thrive also serves Athens, population 12,857, and Canton, population 4,229.
