According to Industry Navigator*, agencies have spent more than $3.5 billion this year on various technology and related products. The largest amount of tech money spent went to contracted services, followed by IT services.
Vendors can look at various documents to assist in researching potential opportunities such as agencies seeking technology and related services.
The Legislative Budget Board (LBB) is a good resource for budget documents. The LBB posts:
- Current budget
- Supplemental budget for the upcoming year
- Agency allocation requests for the coming biennium
Part of the budget process is agency strategic planning, which was formalized last summer for the coming 2024-2025 biennial budget. The next fiscal year begins Sept. 1.
Another resource for vendors are strategic plans, which are generally posted on agency websites.
The five largest agencies, by overall budget, are:
- Health and Human Resources
- Department of Transportation
- Department of Criminal Justice
- Department of Family and Protective Services
- Texas Workforce Commission
