Houston Area Municipality Wants to Spend ARPA Funds This Year

A small city's budget includes plans to spend federal funds for upgrades and purchase technology with general funding.

Alvin, a city of 27,000, will begin to spend down American Rescue Plan (ARPA) funding this year. The city is about 30 miles from Houston, has established a strategic plan, and has a 2035 comprehensive plan.

Proposed technology spends using ARPA money include:
  • Technology infrastructure at $221,840
  • Citywide landline upgrades at $200,000
  • Video broadcast upgrades at $50,075
  • City website upgrade and rebranding at $50,000
  • Agenda management software at $50,000

The city outlined several wish list items in its FY 2022-2023 budget including a water plant server/software purchase of $22,000 and a meter satellite tower at $100,000.
